The Nishitetsu Group designates September, the anniversary month of its founding, as “Nishitetsu Social Contribution Month,” and promotes social contribution activities throughout the Group. Various activities were carried out at each company and department, with the aim of creating a pleasant and happy society. In FY2023, 1,461 people from 47 companies participated in Bus Day events, Nishitetsu Kids Work Experience School, running classes by the Track & Field Club, solicitation and donation of used books and other materials, beautification and greening activities, blood donations, and food assistance. The Nishitetsu Group will continue its social contribution activities in the future.

Cleanup and greening activities

During “Nishitetsu Social Contribution Month,” 1,127 employees from 37 Nishitetsu Group companies participated in cleanup and greening activities. We cleaned up the areas around our offices, stations, bus stops, parks, beaches, and more, to clean up local communities for our customers and local residents.

Nishitetsu Kids Sports Class “Running Class” (Nishitetsu Track & Field Club, Public Relations and CS Promotion Dept., Nishi-Nippon Railroad)

Nishi-Nippon Railroad’s Public Relations and CS Promotion Department held a running class in collaboration with the Nishitetsu Track & Field Club at Fukuoka Daimyo Garden City Park. This event was held as part of the “Nishitetsu Kids Sports Class,” which is designed to teach children the appeal and fun of sports, and was attended by 35 elementary school students. The athletes gave advice on how to train and tips on how to run faster, and also shared the joy of running with the children by sweating it out with them in relays and running games. Blessed with fine weather, the running class was full of smiles and energy.

Nishitetsu Kids Work Experience School (Public Relations and CS Promotion Dept., Nishi-Nippon Railroad)

The Nishitetsu Kids Work Experience School was held by Nishitetsu’s Public Relations and CS Promotion Department for elementary school children. This year, 134 children participated, divided into 43 classes, and experienced various jobs at the Nishitetsu Group, including bus driver and advertising creator. The participants thoroughly enjoyed themselves, as they could see behind-the-scenes of work normally out of sight, and challenge themselves to do the work they have always dreamed of doing.

Bus Day event (Nishitetsu Bus Futsukaichi, Automotive Business Division, Nishi-Nippon Railroad and Hita Bus)

Nishitetsu Bus Futsukaichi and Nishi-Nippon Railroad Automotive Business Division jointly held a “Bus Day Event” with Nakagawa City at Mirikaroden Nakagawa. Hita Bus also held a “Bus Day Event” jointly with Hita City at the south square of JR Hita Station and other locations. The event included a commemorative photo with the bus, a tug-of-war with the bus, a drive simulator experience, and sales of bus merchandise. Both events were a great success, with many visitors.

Bus Riding Class (Momochihama Sales Office, Automotive Business Division, Nishi-Nippon Railroad and Nishitetsu green doboku)

Momochihama Sales Office and Nishitetsu green doboku held a bus-riding class for elementary school children at Ohori Park. Twenty elementary school students joined the program, which included a bus ride experience using an actual route bus, a blind-spot experience from the driver's seat, and getting in and out of a wheelchair. The bus riding class was a fun way to experience the safety and security of Nishitetsu while deepening interest in buses.

Support for activities at facilities for people with disabilities (NNR Taiwan Inc.)

NNR Global Logistics Taiwan Inc. (NNR Taiwan) continued its social support activities last year by sponsoring the Children Are Us Foundation, a support facility for people with disabilities, and purchasing moon cakes (Chinese sweets) from a store operated by the facility. The purchased mooncakes were presented to customers during the Mid-Autumn Festival (Otsukimi, or Fifteenth Night, in Japan) in Taiwan.

Blood donation (Nishitetsu Jinji Service, Nishitetsu Auto Body Tech, Nishitetsu M-Tech)

Nishitetsu Jinji Service, Nishitetsu Auto Body Tech, and Nishitetsu M-Tech held blood donation events. At the Nishitetsu head office, we invited staff from the Japanese Red Cross Society to a meeting room at the Hakata Center Building to conduct a blood donation drive. Many employees participated in the event with the hope of contributing to medical care and society in any way they could.

Supporting NPOs through donations of used books, CDs/DVDs, games, and the like (General Affairs Department, Nishi-Nippon Railroad)

Nishitetsu’s General Affairs Department collected used books, CDs, DVDs, games, and other items from employees to support NPOs through a donation service called “KIMOCHITO” provided by Bookoff Corporation Ltd. This year, the program was expanded to several bus and railroad sales offices and crew offices, as well as international logistics offices, and collected 1,273 books, 448 CDs and DVDs, and 62 game consoles and software items.

Supporting vaccines through donations of used clothing (Sales Unit, East Japan GBC Section, General Sales Department, International Logistics Division, Nishi-Nippon Railroad)

The Sales Unit, East Japan GBC Section, General Sales Department, International Logistics Division collected used clothing and other items from employees and donated them to Myanmar, Laos, and other countries for polio vaccines through the “Furugi de Vaccine” service provided by Japan Reuse System. Employees donated clothes, shoes, bags, and other items with the hope of contributing to sustainability and eradicating polio through the reuse of used clothing.

Donation to food bank (NNR Hong Kong, Ltd.)

NNR Hong Kong, Ltd. wanted to help those in need of food assistance and contribute to the local community, so employees brought in food items and donated them to the food bank. More than 100 food items, including snacks, canned foods, and instant foods, were collected and delivered to needy households and unemployed people through food banks.
